Capture FX
Run any app, game, window, Spout feed or video loop through effects that answer kick, snare and hats. Studio.
Effects that need a feed
The INPUT tab of the Library holds effects rather than standalone visuals. They run on top of video coming from somewhere else: a screen or window on this PC, a video file from your loop library, or another app such as OBS, Resolume, TouchDesigner or MadMapper.
Three ways in
- Capture a screen or window. The quickest way in: point IKANDY at any monitor, game or app window and the effect processes it live. Native Windows capture keeps HDR sources in HDR, survives a resize of the captured window, and accepts every current source. The Capture toggle also lives per monitor in Output Stage.
- Connect a Spout sender. For a real VJ rig: send a feed out of OBS, Resolume, TouchDesigner or MadMapper and receive it here at up to 60 fps.
- Play one of your own video loops. No other app needed: add a file on the LOOPS tab and play it, and every effect here runs on top of it.
Pick an effect while nothing is feeding IKANDY and the app opens this same choice, the three doors plus Preview Anyway.
The eleven Capture FX
- Time Slits and Time Echo: time sculpture, with recorded beat ribbons and echoes of the feed.
- Press, Pixel Press and Glyph Press: the print lab, the feed pressed into ink, pixels and glyphs.
- Living Paint and Contour Light: the feed's structure repainted, and traced in light.
- Feedback Cathedral, Liquid Glass, Flow Ink, and Shatter and Reform: retained highlights, refractive glass, source colored fluid motion, and spring driven fragments.
Each effect responds to kick, snare and hats with its own gestures instead of one generic pulse, and each keeps its intended color and retained state through the shared output pipeline, HDR included.
The classic live-input scenes
The same shelf carries the earlier Spout effect scenes: Live Key for chroma and luma keying over a generated backdrop, Datamosh, Halftone, Anamorphic, Painterly, Displace, Slit Scan, Echo, Kaleidoscope, Feedback, Glitch, Pixelate, Tunnel, Edge, Mirror, Prism, Liquid, ASCII, Vortex, Heatwave, and a clean Passthrough.
Good to know
- AUTO on the INPUT shelf keeps rotating: an effect that cannot start moves on to the next.
- Saved numbered presets, Stage transitions and Spout AUTO all work with Capture FX, and switching effects repeatedly does not grow GPU memory.
- With a Spout or NDI output attached, the show paces itself for that output at 4K instead of the console preview.
